BTech Overview

BTech is the abbreviated version of Bachelor of Technology, an undergraduate degree conferred after the completion of a skill-intensive, 4-year academic course. Students that have completed Class XII Science with a mandatory percentage, are eligible to apply. This is one of the most sought-after courses with excellent campus-placements opportunities. You may choose from a multitude of career paths, and opt for a technical or managerial job or enrol for a master’s in technology.

The Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) offers 16 BTech programs in streams including Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical, Mechanical, Data Science, Building Science and Chemical Engineering. The duration of the BTech program is a minimum of 4 years (8 semesters), during which students will need to earn 170 credits in order to qualify for the degree. Students may choose from a wide range of elective courses and open electives. The Students Life Cycle Management (SLCM) platform provides online access to academic information for all stakeholders.

Frequently asked questions about MIT

That’s a tough question, as the popularity of streams evolves with time. But broadly, streams such as Computer Science & Engineering, Information Technology, Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering top the charts. Other streams such as Biomedical, Biotechnology and Data Science are popular too. Ideally, the stream that excites you the most should dictate your choice.

Both the courses at MIT are rewarding and future-oriented. While BTech in Computer Science and Engineering trains you in software and hardware fields such as microprocessors, database systems, formal language and automata theory, a course in Information Technology will equip you to meet computational needs, with an emphasis on information technology. As we know, India has established itself as a pioneer in IT.

For Indian Boards, you should be 10+2 or equivalent, with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks, with Physics, Mathematics and English as compulsory subjects.

‘A’ level with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry and English in the ‘AS’/IGCSE/GCSE. A minimum of an average of ‘D’ grade in Physics, Mathematics, and any of the optional subjects.

For IB students: IB Diploma or IB Certificate with a minimum average of 4 points for Physics, Mathematics and any optional subject with an overall minimum of 24 points.
